Using "Alice" to Get Started Learning Programming

A big part of the legacy of Randy Pausch is his work with several colleagues on Alice, a 3D programming environment that teachers can use to introduce students to object-oriented programming concepts.

Alice makes it easy for students to create animations — both stories and simple interactive games. If the student wishes, an animation can be converted to a video, which can then be shared on the Web.

Alice is an open source program available for free from Carnegie Mellon.
